About us

As both a teacher and a parent, I was always conscious of the sheer amount of school uniform that was either lost or outgrown very quickly; especially as we’d have to keep re-buying it! That of course meant that at the end of the child’s school years, many of us parents were left with bags of redundant school uniform that was too precious to throw away, but too odd to put out on display.

That’s when I thought there must be something I can do with all this spare fabric, and hence the first Quirky Bear was born. First, I had to search for a pattern to use and adapt*, trialling the idea with other fabrics and well, the outcome was definitely quirky!

Then using my own children’s old primary school uniform, I made two for display around the house as a nod to the past and their younger years. Following some positive comments from friends and family, who thought it as a great idea and wanted a Quirky Bear for themselves, this little idea blossomed.

That’s when I started selling some others for different schools - simply asking for the child’s uniform, so that it was personal to them, to give in return a little Quirky Bear as a keepsake for those treasured years.
